We regularly write our favorite games at Engadget, and even list the "best games" for each console. But buying games for others is completely different from choosing games for yourself. Unless you know exactly what they want, where do you start?

Well, let's first consider the interests of your loved ones outside of games. Is there anything they can do to help them relax every night? Do they like a good story that moves them? Are they board game fanatics? Maybe they are keen on romanticizing the Greek gods? Okay, the last one is unlikely, but we hope everyone here has something.

If Silksong, the sequel to Hollow Knight, has arrived, I might recommend it. In fact, it is still a good time to get familiar with the original work that was first released on PC in 2017. Thanks to its Metroidvania game style (explore, gain new abilities, use abilities to explore further) and its cute cartoon appearance, it is still a classic. To explore the world of Hollow Knight, you need semi-decent reflexes to explore dangerous environments and survive larger bugs. This story is gently integrated into your exploration, and although things may feel a little bleak-this is a game that looks very moody-there are many interesting little moments to meet with the characters.

In the past year or so, no game has brought me so much happiness and peace than Stardew Valley. Judging from the many streaming media on Twitch, I think I am not alone. Farm simulation games are some of my favorite games when I was young (Harvest Moon: A good life holds a special place in my heart) and Stardew Valley filled the gaps in my adulthood and gave me a pleasant and interesting thing. I can concentrate when the world is out of control. Plan the autumn days in advance so that I can get as many Venus pumpkins to bring me more happiness than you think, as is the collection of large amounts of cheese and eggs produced by my happy cows and chickens. The Sims enthusiast in my heart also found a lot of fun in actually building my farm-of course, it is not as complicated as the farm I see in Twitch or Reddit posts, but it is part of my own virtual paradise. If your particular person is lucky enough to have a PlayStation 5, they are likely to be eager for a game that can take full advantage of their new console-few games can do better than Ratchet & Clank: Rift. Disco Elysium is a video game for board game lovers, RPG diehards, and gritty detective story lovers. Since its release in October 2019, it has consolidated its position in independent games. Control: The Ultimate Edition is a third-person supernatural thriller with a mysterious government building in the background, which is overwhelmed by a terrifying and murderous existence. It comes from Alan Wake studio Remedy Entertainment, and it has rapid-fire gunfights, remote control capabilities, and creepy creatures.
